ARE LITHIUM ION and LITHIUM IRON THE SAME?
NO – they are not the same. Lithium Iron batteries are are much safer because they are not sensitive or vulnerable to damage under high temperatures, overcharges, or short circuits, and BYD LiFePo4 Batteries have been lab and field tested to be among the safest LiFePo4 batteries in the world! Even under extreme tests, they do NOT overheat or explode when stressed.
Lithium ion, on the other hand, has a higher energy density than lithium iron, which means it can store more energy per unit of weight or volume. This makes lithium ion more suitable for power-hungry devices that need a lot of energy, such as smartphones, laptops, or electric vehicles. However, lithium ion is much more sensitive under high temperatures, overcharges, or short circuits and more vulnerable if damaged – it can overheat… or worse…
Lithium iron (“LiFePo4”) is also more stable and has a longer lifespan than lithium ion, which means it can serve you much better over a longer period of time.
• Safety: Lithium iron (“LiFePo4′) batteries are safer than lithium ion batteries, which means that Lithium iron batteries are less likely to catch fire or explode when stressed or damaged. This is because Lithium Iron has a lower risk of thermal runaway, which is a chain reaction of heat generation that can cause the battery to over-heat and rupture.
Li-ion batteries have higher energy densities than LiFePo4 batteries – which make them more volatile, and Li-ion are no longer considered the safest option for off-grid and solar applications.
Instead, home power solutions should use safer, longer-lasting technologies like LiFePO4. A safer battery is more important than a slight difference in weight!
LiFePO4 is an abbreviation for: Lithium Iron Phosphate, a type of material that is used as a cathode in some lithium-ion batteries.
The 4 in LiFePO4 stands for the number of oxygen atoms in the chemical formula of lithium iron phosphate, a type of material that is used as a cathode in some lithium-ion batteries. LiFePO4 is composed of one lithium (Li) atom, one iron (Fe) atom, one phosphorus (Po) atom, and four oxygen atoms. The oxygen atoms form a tetrahedral structure around the phosphorus atom, creating a phosphate group (PO4). The phosphate group is then bonded to the iron atom, forming an iron phosphate (FePO4) unit.
Are you looking for a reliable, safe, and scalable battery solution for your home or business? Then you’ll love our Stackable LiFePO4 batteries. These batteries are designed to provide you with high-quality energy storage that can meet your various needs and preferences, at a cost that leaves your budget for other Solar needs.
Our Stackable LiFePO4 batteries are made of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells, which are one of the most advanced and stable battery technologies available. LiFePO4 batteries have several advantages over other types of batteries, such as:
• Longer lifespan: LiFePO4 batteries can last 10 years or more, with over
6000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge (DOD).
• Higher power output: LiFePO4 batteries can deliver high power output up
to 2.5kW per module, which is suitable for peak demand or backup power.
• Faster charging: LiFePO4 batteries can be fully charged in about 2
hours, which is much faster than lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries.
• Reduced weight: LiFePO4 batteries are much lighter than lead-acid or
lithium-ion batteries, which makes them easier to install and transport.
• Increased safety: LiFePO4 batteries are non-flammable and non-explosive,
which means they are safer to use and store.
• Low toxicity and environmental impact: LiFePO4 batteries are made of
natural minerals and do not contain harmful substances such as cobalt,
nickel, or cadmium.
